Item Information: Transformation Brooch (Anime)

Usagi receives the Henshin (Transformation) Brooch from Luna (by means of her magical back flip) in the first episode, Nakimushi Usagi no karei naru henshin (Crybaby Usagi's Magnificent Transformation). This is the only transformation item given to her by Luna, excluding the Hensou Pen. Usagi always wears this brooch, like every brooch/compact to follow, pinned to the center of the bow of her school uniform. When not wearing her school uniform, she carries it in her pocket or handbag. This Henshin Brooch is used in more episodes than any other of Sailor Moon's transformation items, as it appeared in 51 episodes of the series.
The Transformation Brooch is gold with a pink circle in the center surrounded by a crescent moon. Along the outer rim of the front of the brooch, there are four smaller circles that represent each of the Four Guardians’ colors (blue, red, green, and orange). To activate the brooch, Usagi says the phrase, “Moon Prism Power, Make Up!” This is the only brooch that is not shown at the initiation of Sailor Moon's transformation, since it is not a compact.
Of all of Usagi’s regular transformation articles, this is the only one that is not a compact. In Episode 51, Atarashiki henshin! Usagi power up (New Transformation! Usagi's Power Up), Sailor Moon’s brooch shatters while in the grips of a Cardian because she no longer has the drive to be a soldier in her heart. Sailor Moon receives an upgrade when the brooch is reborn as the Crystal Star after the Ginzuishou is placed inside its broken shell. All of Usagi's transformation brooches were sequential upgrades of this item.
